Don't Lose Your Dinosaur

Don't Lose Your Dinosaur

Don't Lose Your Dinosaur
In the popular movie 'Step Brothers' there's a couple quotes that many view as a joke but to me I found a deeper meaning.  Here are the quotes :
  1. When I was a kid, when I was a little boy, I always wanted to be a dinosaur. I wanted to be a Tyrannosaurus Rex more than anything in the world. I made my arms short and I roamed the backyard, I chased the neighborhood cats, I growled and I roared. Everybody knew me and was afraid of me. And one day my dad said, "Bobby, you are 17. It's time to throw childish things aside," and I said, "Okay, Pop." But he didn't really say that, he said, "Stop being a fucking dinosaur and get a job."
  2. "So I thought, I'll be a doctor for a little while... and then go back to that."
Many people just laugh at this part of the movie because it's so laughably true.  There does come a time when we must grow up and begin taking things more seriously but.......not too seriously.  Don't sacrifice who you truly are just to appease society.  You are not the main character in anyone else's lives, they are all too concerned with themselves.  I implore you to please, don't lose your dinosaur just to appease an ideal that society imposes on you.  I'm sick and tired of seeing broken bodies/minds telling me they made it because they have a seven figure 401k.  I'm sick and tired of hearing regrets from my elderly friends, that they lost their proverbial dinosaur.  I'm sick and tired of seeing people get caught up in life's obligations trying to be something they aren't and never will be.  They fell off their dinosaur and there is no getting back on.  Time keeps on marching forward, whether you're on your dinosaur or not.  Sometimes they make irreversible decisions or mistakes, because they're trying to fit someone else's vision of who they should be.  As said in 'Step Brothers' : "So I thought, I'll be a doctor for a little while... and then go back to that."  There is no going back to that, sometimes you dig your own grave.  What you don't realize is that people who mean well for you (parents, girlfriends, wives, close friends, society) bought you the shovel and the burial plot.

Think for yourself, escape the matrix and forge your own destiny.  I want you to take a moment after reading this and plan your next course of action to build the life YOU want.  This could be as simple as drinking a cold glass of water, doing a push-up before bed or meditating for 1 minute.  Time is marching forward, don't take another second for granted.....
